The Power of Communion

Every morning, the prayer with which we open our work is based on the words of Paul: “You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, to be known and read by all” (2 Co. 3:2-6), presented in power point format by Sr. Sergia Ballini with great artistic taste and love. Brief excerpts from the writings of Fr. Alberione help us apply the thought for the day to our own daily lives. They remind us that if we are receptive to the Word and to the action of grace, then our lives as consecrated apostles will become a “letter of God” for the people of our time.

Today we continued to work with great diligence on the continental level to pinpoint working objectives to carry out together. In the past days, “small gems” already present in our continental projects began to emerge, forecasting a “new spring” for us–one marked by a deeper awareness of the power that springs from communion and unity. The synergy of intentions among us is being nourished by our continual exchange of ideas, which helps to reinforce the values we have in common and also our sense of belonging to the Congregation. This comparison of ideas is also helping us grow in our awareness of and esteem for one another–attitudes that can help us attain our goals. This is why the times we spend together are so important.

In the evenings, our hearts have been widening more and more as we listen to our sisters recount a variety of situations, events and interesting initiatives going on in their circumscriptions, as well as the challenges to our mission in their part of the world. Up to now we have heard about an experience in implementing the Institute’s China Project, an initiative concerning pastoral work for vocations in Portugal, the celebration of our Golden Jubilee in Peru, a Bible Mission in a large parish in Luanda (Angola), missionary evangelization in the state of Vitoria (Brazil), the celebration of Christmas with our Hindu brothers and sisters in Mumbai (India), dissemination of the Bible, other books and audiovisuals in the Persian Gulf states of Kuwait, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and a simple but creative initiative entitled “One Rupee a Day for the Gospel.”

Listening to one another always enriches us on the human, fraternal and apostolic levels. We are curious to know what else the different members of our group will share with us in the coming days and we look forward to sharing this information with you when we return home.
